Modi carried out a long awaited cabinet re-shuffle today inducting new 19 ministers, 5 ministers have been asked to step down to devote time in organization. This takes up the ministry size to 78 well within the 82 allowed as per constitution, but higher than MMS second ministry strength of 70.
Modi took oath in 2014 with 45 ministers and lot was publicized about the lean ministry and how he had combined various ministries into one having similar links. So what happened? Has that idea failed? Has Modi succumbed to same old formula of governance? How can ache ache din be provided with the same old jumbo ministries based on caste, religion and elections dynamics?
3 ministers each from UP and Gujarat have been inducted which go to polls in 2017. 7 ministers belong to SC / ST with a clear intent to lure Dalit vote bank of Mayawati in UP. Do these formulas win elections anymore?
While Modi govt. is doing good work and enjoys high popularity ratings, middle class is reeling from high food inflation. A section of voters who voted for new / different / innovative ways of governance feel confused. How can better governance be given with same old formulas? Is Modi betting too much on TINA factor? Only time will tell…
