PB’s twisty take on the top five headlines of the day.
1. Netaji to go Ratan Tata way? Mulayam asserts his dominance, says ‘I made Akhilesh CM’
This statement is a cheapest form of self-glorification. Every father makes his son. But one day the son has to take over father. Mulayam days are over so are Shivpal’s.
2. Yashwant Sinha to initiate talks on Kashmir logjam
Sinha is non-entity now, and it feels that possibly he has to take steps to be in reckoning. Hence time is ripe for Mr. Yeshwant Sinha to initiate peace talks and explain the consequences of terror attacks. Kashmiri seperatists are threatened by the CPEC project as it will over-run both sides of Kashmir. Pakistan will coolly sell the land as they cannot share the costs of CPEC project.
3. Tatas Move To Prevent Legal Challenge From Cyrus Mistry
If the Tata Trusts want very long term perspective, so be it. It is their choice. In that process, if some companies go in loss, so be it. Individual and Retail shareholders are shrewd enough to understand and get out from Tata companies as they want. If very long term view has not been taken by Tata group, TISCO , the first steel plant would not have come in India much before other PSU steel plants have come up.
4. Will correct disparity in military, civilian officers’ rank structure: Parrikar
Why should the government equate Military ranks with secretarial ranks? It is non comparable. Private corporations these days operate in a way that compensation is not tied to rank and level, and reporting structures also do not necessarily obey levels. For the government, of course, seniority is yet another counterproductive anachronism.
5. Will not examine Hindutva or religion at this stage: Supreme Court
In effect, Supreme Court is saying that Hinduism shall remain a “way of life” (but that the Judiciary shall determine what may or may not be be a “way of life” from time to time.
