PB’s twisty take on the top five headlines of the day.
1. Govt must acknowledge past surgical strikes: Congress
Targeting Parikkar, he added, “This kind of prevaricating only to score brownie points is unfortunate because it paints the nation in a bad light”. Congress did bring out a valid point regarding the contradiction from the Foreign Secretary, but publicising the event needs to stop.
2. GST: Centre, states put off decision on rate to next month
Same was diring VAT implementation. Hope this clash will not turn GST to a lower level tax reform only. It is government agenda to increase taxes. Issues with multiple level registrations and returns, no credit between SGST and CGST, restrictions on credit availability, withdrawal of industry benefiting exemptions, harsh one sided new provisions against industry.
3. Yadav family feud: Akhilesh to skip SP anniversary bash, launch poll campaign
The Mahabharat is part epic, part myth, but what is unfolding in UP is contemporary reality. This has been going on in the family since previous elections and is highly hampering the supporters of Akhilesh and the patriarch of Samajwadi Party. This will effect their vote bank.
4. Delhi HC dismisses Kejriwal’s plea to stay defamation case filed by Arun Jaitley
The High Court has handed over to Kejriwal what he had been asking for and he will have to deal with it. On the positive side, the media will have even more material to write about him and his party, sensationalising the headlines.
5. India, China Hold First Ever Joint Army Exercise In Jammu And Kashmir
It is the hectic diplomatic manoeuvring between the two countries over a host of issues like NSG bid and the ongoing BRICS conferences. Political agendas may vary and many will not accept this but keeping the coordinated effort on is crucial too.
