PB’s twisty take on the top five headlines of the day.
1. Government keen 2017-18 budget should not clash with polls: Arun Jaitley
The finance ministry had previously proposed that the Budget presentation be fixed for February 1and the entire exercise be completed by March 24. But with Assembly elections in five states likely to be held in phases, there is a probability that this budget schedule may clash with the campaigning and the polling.
2. Oil prices fall from 1-year highs on OPEC deal doubts
So because of speculation OPEC does not actually have to cut production, they just need to say they will and overnight there is $50 oil. Saudi and the rest of OPEC have consistently played speculators and investors like a fiddle.
3. PM Modi’s Lucknow Choice Draws Charges Of Seeking Political Advantage
These very seculars and leftists would have been baying for PM Modi’s blood had something gone wrong on the surgical strikes. It was PM Modi who took the call and put his head on the line. Just imagine if things did not go to plan. Congress and its Allies, would have gone to town and making political capital out of it.
4. The sacred mission of gau-sevaks would continue: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat
Mohan Bhagwat has converted the RSS into an organization of vegetarians, Vaishnavas, Jains and Arya Samajis. It has always been the same, people are concerned about the least important aspects. What is on our plate doesn’t make change a human’s nature or your countryman’s status.
5. Defence, trade on table when PM Modi, Putin meet on Saturday
Russia has been our all weather friend. It should be given the importance it deserves. Joint development of nuclear submarines is another area where Russia and India could collaborate. Hardware and Software expertise between the two countries would appear to be complimentary.
