PB’s twisty take on the top five headlines of the day.
1. Govt mulls air fare cap, again; but it will only increase red tape
Nothing has hurt the air travel industry more than this fad for dynamic pricing. Wonder if somebody can carry out a detailed statistical study to draw an alternate scenario. Dynamic pricing makes managers and companies dishonest and inefficient. Why the Competition Commission is not moving on predatory pricing is not clear.
2. Rahul to Lead Protest Against Drug Menace in Punjab
He goes everywhere with a fond belief that it will make earth shaking effect.. unfortunately every where it boomeranged. These are all silly tricks. What was he doing all these years even though he was one of the first to bring up this topic. Going to Hyderabad, Noida will not help. He should genuinely raise policy issues.
3. PM Modi, Shah offered UP CM’s post to Rajnath
He may be fit for UP CM but he is more fit for his present position.
It is going to be tough fight in UP elections. SP seems to be in a better position than BSP in UP. Congress is gone and BJP trying to repeat its performances of Loksabha election results.
4. BJP sweeps all 4 RS seats in Raj | SP wins 7 seats in UP, BSP 2, BJP & Cong 1 each
BJP badly needs Rajya sabha membership. A step closer to GST ,we will see despite Congress support GST bill will pass in Rajya Sabha.
5. IDBI loan default case: ED attaches assets worth Rs 1,411 crore of Vijay Mallya
On what basis is ED is assuming that amount from loan was diverted to buy properties abroad? Does ED know the amount of money required to run an airline of the size of Kingfisher? ED should also note that Kingfisher bought Deccan airways for a huge sum of money? Kingfisher airlines went down when the going was rough with high oil prices and he did get support from then UPA govt including Ajit singh then civil aviation minister. Same time jet airways had a bigger loan on their books and also Air India was supported by govt with close to 30 k crore.
