PB’s twisty take on the top five headlines of the day.
1. SC gives rap to BCCI: Accept Lodha panel report, you won’t get a 2nd innings
S. Court hit hard on BCCI giving it time till March 3 to “mull over the report” but warned that there was no “rationale not to accept it.” Among the most sensational suggestions by the Lodha panel was the one on legalizing betting. It also made sweeping suggestions on the composition of Board which would reduce involvement of politicians in the sport and promote sportsmen as in-charge. Hope S. Court is able to clean the mess in BCCI.
2. National Herald: Sonia, Rahul move SC to quash charges against them – Noose tightening around them?

The Gandhis have argue that the allegations in the complaint (of Swami) did not merit a cheating case against them. Swamy has also filed a caveat in the Supreme Court requesting it not to pass any order without hearing his arguments. The judicial process in India leaves me baffled. How can Supreme Court come in the picture when lower court has not issued a final order? They already went once to High Court for getting a reprieve from personal appearance. Now chamcha lawyers using another trick in the book. Something fishy and clearly shows Gandhis are jittery and on the back foot.
3. Ahead of Tamil Nadu elections, Modi reaches out to Dalits – Efforts to establish NJP as a principal player in the state!
Even as the BJP-led Central government faces heat following the suicide of a Dalit scholar in Hyderabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to woo Dalits in his first public rally in election-bound Tamil Nadu. Modi seems to be in a Perpetual Election Mode.
BJP led coalition in a surprise result won 2 LS seats in 2014 ahead of Congress and DMK. It wants to establish itself as a main contender in the state. Has previously allied with borth Dravidian parties – DMK and AIADMK – and needs to maintain safe distance to build the party in the state.
4. Owaisi – Modi & MIM will together wipe out Congress – Pitching for minority votes throughout the country!
Owaisi has national ambitions and is playing on the minority displeasure with Congress. It has spread wings in Maharashtra and will be trying its luck in UP in 2017. If it gets an alliance with BSP it can be a potent force.
Politics of polarization with BJP wooing Hindu votes and MIM presenting itself as a viable alternative for minorities.
5. Gold prices extend gains, now at 5-month high – Back in spotlight!
Standard gold (99.5 purity) gained by Rs 175 to end at Rs 27,155 per 10 grams. Gold in the spotlight again after commodities slump. India also driving prize high as imports have increased over the months as restrictions have eased. The asset class which was written off has come back strongly. Can it sustain is the question?
