PB’s twisty take on the top five headlines of the day.
1. Manmohan’s tip to Modi: Please don’t act only when there’s a crisis
Currency devaluation and interest rates manipulations are the only tools with Finance Ministry/RBI to give boost to business. MM and co. just took the risk and it worked. There was no other recourse left after having tried controlled economy and encouragement of small sector, licence raj etc which failed miserably. India is still suffering from those policies” after effects which are disappearing slowly. India never encouraged large sector resulting into high production costs, less exports, devaluation, licence raj with low quality products etc resulted into the situation in 1991. More credit goes to Narsimha Rao.
2. India okays $1 billion surveillance deal with America to keep an eye on China
Strengthening of Indian Navy with latest surveillance systems is welcome in view of increased activity of China in the Indian ocean region. And no compromises should be made on the quality of procurement.
3. Dhaka hostage crisis ends | 20 foreigners killed
Recently, Bangladesh has taken more strict position to eradicate radical Islam so this attack seems more politically motivated than religious to destabilize the diplomatic zone. They might want to create a hostage situation to free their leaders in jails. Kudos to Bangladeshi Army Para commandos.
4. SC rejects govt plea, HC to rule on Delhi-Centre tiffs
It is good to see that the Supreme Court has perceived the fact that the Delhi government is NOT exercising state executive power under Art 154(1) but only Union executive power relate-able to Art 53(1) and as officers subordinate to the President holding office during his pleasure as set down in Art 239AA. It will be good if the Delhi High Court were to rule that Art 239AA was totally unnecessary as two masters cannot be exercising the same power at the same time over the same matter.
5. Ahead of UP polls, family feuds bother Mulayam
BJP has to cash this opportunity without fail. Looks like Akhilesh is trying to play positive politics. It is not about gains of BJP, it is about change for good. If all parties take efforts to compete with BJP start taking possitive steps then it will be BJP’s contribution for making better political environment in India.
